BEZUBA, PART 8

~BEZUBA~

~PART 8~

She instantly felt light. You didn’t hurt when you didn’t expect n dreamed. To stay alone without human ties or love was her fate. Like he said not bound to him, neither emotionally nor physically.

Maan’s each muscle ached as he walked back into the room from gym. It was still dark so he thought Geet was still asleep which was understandable since it was so early n they had slept late. Well, only Geet, he didn’t sleep at all. He took out clothes from the cupboard n walked into bathroom. Then he stopped dead in his steps, the clothes falling from his hands n breath catching in throat.

She was naked, standing to her full height, looking inside the cabinets. Her hairs were still in braid flacks coming out n…. she was beautiful. Her each spot porcelain smooth, flawless. From the curve of her neck to the straight line of her back to the full bulge of her butt, two round globes parted by a line n then her lean, creamy legs. As she bent over the platform to check the lower cabinet, her legs parted… Maan grew hard n his length throbbed as all blood raced to his core. She stood back up n stilled, seeing him in the mirror. Maan wasn’t concentrated on her face though, his attention was on the handful of tight breasts n how soft they would be under his palm n mouth. Those perk, pink nipples between his lips and teeth as he tugged n sucked would feel… his eyes dipped lower to the flat belly n then her sex, the beautiful mound n lips that he urged to kiss n ravish like a man starved.
A vision of her bent over the counter like before while he penetrated n thrust into her from behind flashed before him n he jerked his eyes up to hers. They were wide, her lips parted. Maan looked at himself in the mirror. His expressions were just the same though his eyes were dark with lust.
She forget to close the door was her first thought when her sanity returned. As Maan’s eyes roamed over her she wanted to duck her head n go invisible, in spite of that a thrill rose in her chest n surged with her blood. She was bare but didn’t felt naked. He was just in his trousers n his torso was a mass of taut muscles n abs, covered with sheen of sweat right now maybe because of workout. They stood for ages n slowly she turned around because Maan clearly wasn’t going anywhere. Unable to think rationally with her hands she covered her chest n the area between her legs. A grunt resounded as Maan turned n started to go out.
Maan? Don’t know why she called his name but he stopped n then before she knew was on her. His mouth latched on her neck while he held her hands behind her back. Her chest closed against his sweaty, hard one.  She moaned. His mouth, those lips n tongue, wetted her neck making her breath n heartbeat go wild while his stubble tickled her skin scratching it painfully. He was fervent n demanding. His knee parted her thighs as his hard length pressed to her nude core. Like someone opened the floodgates, Geet became wet, flowing like river. He rubbed himself against her pushing her more into the counter. His hand came up to open her braid. He was everywhere… on her body, in her mind. And she moaned n arched n rubbed n…
He buried his face in her plump breasts n his other hand went down to the waistband of his trousers. Geet held the counter, tight, bracing herself for what was about to come.
It ended there. He jumped back as if electrified and all but ran out of the bathroom. Not before her seeing the expressions on his face, of regret and sheer disappointment... and disgust. Geet couldn’t even cry. Her mind was a blank void. She went into the shower n started the water with shaky hand. A bath was desperately needed so she could do the impossible task of washing his touch off her.
When the sun was fully out in the sky Geet went to the main mansion to meet Dadimaa as she had asked her to come the next morning. Maan had already left without telling. *Yeh kiske lie hai?* Geet wrote on the pad n showed the servant who was taking breakfast. Dadimaa ke lie. *mai le jaati hu* The servant was hesitant n denied once too but when she asked again because she was going that way only he agreed, with difficulty.*Sabko kya lagta hai babaji ke mai khane me kuch mila dungi?* Geet knocked on the door, soft n slow. Aa jayiye.
Geet went in n touched Dadimaa’s feet. Aapko roz humare pair chune ki zaroorat nai hai. Aap toh humari beti jaisi hai. Geet smiled n kept the breakfast aside. Dadimaa couldn’t walk n she had difficulty moving much. Geet understood this. *Mai aapko khila du?* Dadimaa nodded.
Geet fed her n because while feeding she couldn’t communicate they remained fixed to one task. Once done. Dadimaa asked. Aapko humaara gift kaisa laga? Geet knotted her brows. Humne apka room decorate karwaya tha na. Geet blushed though her eyes were sad which didn’t escape Dadimaa’s vision. Geet picked the pad to write. Nai likhna chodiye, humse aap apne tareeqe se baat kariye. Geet eyes widened n she shook her head. Aap chinta mat kariye humare paas pura din hai hum seekh jayenge.
So they started like that. Toh bataiye aapko gift kaisa laga? *Accha tha.* Geet told like this…

But her expressions didn’t match with her sign. Aap humse sab share kar sakti hai, hum dikhne me zaroor budhe lagte hai but humara dimaag abhi bhi young hai. Toh humse aap ek dost ki tarah baat kariye, theek hai? Hum Maan se kuch nai kahenge.Humaari baate bas humare beech hi rahengi. Geet eyes filled up with adoration. She had never had a real friend n now when Dadimaa was offering such a thing she wanted to embrace it with open arms. Geet nodded enthusiastically. Toh bataiye phir kya problem hai, kal kya hua?
Geet told Dadimaa what had happened. She had thought it would be awkward but Dadimaa listened everything calmly without judging Geet. Obviously Geet didn’t tell what had transpired between her n Maan in bathroom this morning but she did tell that she wasn’t a girl Maan wanted or deserved as his wife n their marriage was just for name sake. She also, honestly n innocently, told Dadimaa how she felt. Dadimaa couldn’t believe that the girl before her was such an angel. She was truthful n naïve not something that you would find in today’s world easily. She had wanted a girl like this only for her grandson but that was beyond realization. Her grandson was ruined n now that Geet was his wife, she didn’t know if she was happy or sad.
Aap kabhi aisa mat sochiyega ke Maan aapko apne se kam samajhte hai. Wo aise nai hai. Par wo sabse alag hai. Agar bhagwan ne aap dono ko milwaya hai toh unhone kuch sochke aisa kia hoga. Aap bilkul pareshan mat hoiye. Geet nodded amazed. The conversation was so easy, difficult at time but not because of the content of their talk but her inability to speak. Still, it just took two-three trials every time for Dadimaa to understand what she wanted to say with her hands. After the sady-sady talks they went ahead to talk about other things n by the time Geet came out of Dadimaa’s room after she fell asleep it was noon. She went downstairs n was hungry. There were servants everywhere but no one asked her for food which was fine with her, not like she had been grown up like a princess.
Somewhere she had heard even if the family members’ had drifted apart there shouldn’t be two separate kitchens; that alienated them all the more. So Geet went into the kitchen of main mansion to cook something for herself.

BEZUBA, PART 7

~BEZUBA~

~PART 7~

*Toh chaliye khate hai. Mujhe bahut bhook lagi hai* She wrote on the pad n Maan wondered how much talkative she would have been if she could speak. *Dadimaa se milwane ke lie thank you. Wo bahut acchi hai.* A look came over Maan's face-the one you got when you missed someone-of longing. It disappeared quickly leaving Geet doubtful if she saw right. Maan just muttered a hmm n went with her to eat.

After finishing the food her husband left to his study again as he had work n Geet came into her room only to freeze in her steps. Redness crept at her cheeks as she blushed furiously.

Whole room was decorated. She looked ahead at the red, satin bed sheets, the flowery canopy, scented candles n magical dcor. Blood in her veins rushed n she felt ticklish all over. This was for their SR? *Babaji mai toh bhul hi gai iske bare me. Kya yeh sab Maan ne kia?* She got even redder with the thought, who else would do this? And what was she to do? Did he want her sitting on bed like every new bride, hidden behind a long veil or he wanted her in a night dress since he was from a big city. Geet nervously realized that she didn't even have any clothes. *Babaji mai kya karun?*

Just then her eyes registered the clothes lying on the couch. A nighty and a suit. She debated on what to wear. *Jhalli, unhone nighty rakhi hai toh wo pahen na. Suit kal ke lie hoga.* With sweaty palms she changed into the nighty then wondered if she should wrap on the see-through robe too. The black nighty was kind of revealing, maybe just for her because she was from a conservative family. Geet gave up on the idea of the robe. Maan was her husband n he surely had some expectations from her. If he could decorate the room she should at least give up some of her inhibitions, right?

After finishing his work Maan came into his room and hadn't expected to see what he did. The room was decorated to tempt n- OH MY GOD. Maan stood frozen. Geet was at the window looking out. Her long hairs tied in a loose braid n that black nighty hid everything n nothing. The black silk went down till her ankles kissing her skin so closely n easily as the air around her. There were only two straps on the shoulders to hold it on her. Her long white hands were bare covered by only blood red bangles. To get her naked he had to just snap those straps. The nighty would pool around her feet in a heap n he would see it all, eating her with his hungry eyes. Maan wondered if she was wearing any undergarments. No bra. He could tell when she turned around. On the name of ornaments she had that black beaded mangalsutra in her neck n red powder filling her mang. She looked divine, beautiful, breathtaking n alluring. And he wanted to-

Reality hit him like thunderbolt. Despite the sindoor n mangalsutra, he wasn't her husband.

I am sorry. I think Annie ne yeh kia hai ya phir Dadimaa ne.When Geet tilted her head he didn't see the confusion on her face n carried on his rant. But I am really sorry. Mai tumhe uncomfortable feel nai karana chahta tha. Sorry nai... Geet said n for a moment Maan got shocked to hear that sweet voice of hers. Geet ran to the table n brought the pad n pen. *Aap sorry kyu bol rahe hai? Mai aapki wife hoon aur aapka mujhpe utna hi haq hai jitna mera aappe.* She wrote but cut the second like line n rephrased it as *aapka mujhpe haq hai*. Maan read it all though, the line that was stroked included. He looked at her blushing face n cursed himself.

Saari meri galti hai. Mujhe tumhe sab pehle hi clear kar dena chahiye tha. Haan, hum married hai aur tum meri wife ho. Isilie tumhari saari zimmedari meri hai, kyuki maine tumse shadi ki. Mai samjhta hu tumhare paas koi aur option nai tha ussi tarah jaise mere paas nai tha. Yeh shadi se zayada ek compromise tha humare lie yeh bhi sach hai. Par tumhe mere bare me sochne ya fiqr karne ki koi zaroorat nai hai. Tum meri taraf se ek dum free ho. Hum husband-wife hai duniya ke lie par uske alawa aur kuch nai. Tum mujhse kisi bhi tarah bound nai ho... nai hi emotionally aur na hi physically. Maan looked at the other side because he couldn't take the intensity of her eyes. Abhi tum yahan ho kyuki yeh ghar tumhara bhi hai par jab tum iss nayi duniya se familiar ho jaogi aur... tumhe lagega ke ab tum aage badh sakti ho toh mai tumhe nai rokunga. He said such a big thing so easily; Geet had to blink back the tears. Maan picked up the pillow n duvet. Mai dusre room me so jata hu.

Geet held his hand n wrote on the paper. *Aap yaha so sakte hai. Mai apki izzat pe hamla nai karungi.* She smiled with all her might because her heart was crying so hard. But she didn't want him to feel bad because he rejected a poor village girl. Hmm. Then I will sleep on couch. Geet nodded. There was nothing she could say even if she had a voice box. She was this broken. Going into the bed she buried herself into the sheets and finally let herself cry. Thank god she was mute as she didn't want to disturb his sleep.

Geet was always an early riser n old habit die hard regardless of how drained you felt. So she woke up at 5 which was a little a late according to her standards because back in Hosiyaarpur she woke up at 4:30. Anyways when she awakened Maan wasn't there, apparently, he was an early riser too or he left the room in middle of night to sleep in another. The first thing Geet did was to go into the bathroom n remove the nighty because it somehow made her skin burn. She blankly stared at her body which wasn't up to the mark. He was so amazing n she wasn't. Or maybe, god, he didn't want to be with her because she was... for a little while she really had forgotton that she was dirty and defective, raped at 16 n without a voice box. How could she expect someone like Maan to take her as his wife?

She instantly felt light. You didn't hurt when you didn't expect n dreamed. To stay alone without human ties or love was her fate. Like he said not bound to him neither emotionally nor physically.

Maan's each muscle ached as walked back into the room from the gym. It was still dark so he thought Geet was still asleep which was understandable since it was so early n they had slept late. Well, only Geet, he didn't sleep at all. He took out clothes from the cupboard n walked into the bathroom. BEZUBA, PART 6

~BEZUBA~

~PART 6~

Divya- Aapne yeh shadi karke accha nai kia Maan. Duniya wale kya kahenge. Puri society me humara mazak ban jayega. She pointed at Geet. Yeh iss ghar me nai reh sakti.

Nakul. Maan shouted n he came forward. Mera saara saman outhouse mein shift kar do. Disbelief came over Divya’s face. Aap iss ladki ke lie.

Maan- Iss ladki nai Maa. Yeh aapki bahu hai n jitni jaldi aap iss reality ko accept karle utna accha hai.

Maan held Geet’s hand n walked out the same door from which they had just came in.

Geet had tears in her eyes. She felt like wailing n crying so hard that the sound somehow would reach god. But not a word would come out of her mouth even if she burned her lungs raw.

She hadn’t wanted this. And Geet was now humiliated, almost broken. She didn’t have a real family n she was taking his. As they walked towards the outhouse, Maan left her hand n kept walking. Geet looked back at the main gates.

*Wo mere lie apne parivar ko chod rahe hai.* The weight was an iron rod on her chest. She felt throttled. Geet looked back again n turned around. Her legs carried her forward without feeling the ground beneath. She heard Maan calling in background n then she started to run.

It was better if she went away. He had saved her from hell n brought her here, that was enough. No more did she want to burden him. Her being his wife was unfair on him. He was being good n she was taking advantage of it. A new start. What was she thinking? How could she be happy? There was no new start for her. She would survive somehow, somewhere. At least she wouldn’t be breaking someone’s house staying with a man who had to marry her out of pity.

Maan caught her before she could reach the gates n turned her around. His hand held hers in a wise grip. What the hell are you doing? She opened her mouth speak in a haze and his heart screamed when she realized there won’t be any sound coming out. Not bothered with the realization she jerked her hands away from his n started to speak with them. She shook her hands in a no. And everything else she signed so fast that he couldn’t understand.

Andar chalte hai. Maan told but she shook her head with tears. She seemed weary not because they’d had a long journey or because of tiff with Maan’s mother. No, she seemed tired, because he didn’t understand what she was trying to tell. Not another word was spoken as Maan pulled her inside the outhouse.

He took her to a room n made her sit on the bed. Pani? She shook her head. When he kept staring at her she nodded. Maan went n came back with a glass of water. She drank n kept the glass aside. Tum bhagi kyu?

Geet looked up directly into his eyes n Maan got the signal… there was a lot she wanted to say. Geet started.

*Mai bhagi nai, mai bas jaa rai thi. Aapne mere lie pehle hi bahut kuch kia hai. Mai nai chahti meri wajah se aapko koi aur takleef ho. Parivaar ki kya ehmeeyat hoti hai yeh mai jaanti. Parivaar ko khona matlab jaise khud ko khona. Toh aap kyu yeh sab sahe. Wo bhi meri wajah se. Bilkul nai. Kabhi bhi nai.*

Her hands moved to him all that was going in her mind but he could understand only a little. Geet stopped only when she was finished. *Aapko kuch samajh nai aaya na?* She asked moving her hands.

Maan got up n brought a paper n pen for her. She took it n told him everything once again, this time through her writing. He read what she wrote one by one.

Mai koi parivaar nai kho raha aur mujhe yeh bhi pata hai ke mai kya kar raha hu toh tumhe pareshan hone ki koi zaroorat nai hai. Ab se tumhari zimmedari meri hai. He just explained that much. Tumhe kuch deer me kapde mil jayenge aur mai khana bhi bhijwa raha hu. Taiyaar ho jao mujhe tumhe kisi aur se milwana hai. He started to go out but stopped. Aur haan, yeh ghar aur iss ghar ke log ab tumhare hai kyuki koi mane ya na mane par maine bhagwan ke samne tumhe apni patni banaya hai. Majboori me hi sahi par humne shadi ki hai.

Geet wiped her tears. After sometime the food arrived with clothes. She ate n got dressed up but Maan didn’t come. He came later in the evening n by then she had fallen sleep half hanging on bed waiting for him.

Maan took his time to observe her. Dressed in a fresh suit she had the glow of a new bride. God, she was beautiful in an ethereal kind of way, so delicate n… enchanting. His body hummed n instantly Maan diverted his gaze. Geet. He called in she woke up, taking her surrounding in with confused eyes n then adjusted her dubatta that had slipped low to reveal the low neck of her kurti. The swell of her milky breasts disappeared behind the cloth n Maan took a cool breath in.

Let’s go. Geet stood up, her bangles n anklets singing with her movements.

In the main mansion Maan opened a door while Geet was busy looking around at lavish interiors of the mansion.

Andar aao. Geet head jerked n she nodded following Maan inside. There was a woman sleeping in bed. She looked extremely old n sick.

Dadimaa. At the sound of Maan’s voice she woke up n her eyes wandered to Geet. A different look came over in her elderly orbs which Geet couldn’t comprehend but without knowledge they saddened her. Dadimaa yeh Geet hai. Maan made Dadimaa sit n she managed a weak smile. Geet touched her feet n this time she was fortunate enough to be blessed.Hamesha khush rahiye. Dadimaa humne shadi ki hai, Hosiyaarpur me. Dadimaa looked at Maan n didn’t say a word. Aap bahut pyaari hai beta. Geet’s smile was twinkling n she held Dadimaa’s hand in hers mouthing thank you. Dadimaa understood that Geet couldn’t speak n wanted to convey that she wasn’t bothered by it. She caressed her head lovingly n looked at Maan. Before Geet knew he left the room.

It irked Geet greatly but soon she mingled with Dadimaa n forget everything.

When she came back to the outhouse after an hour there was dinner waiting for her on the dining table. She wanted to cook it herself but, guess, next time. There was a servant going back to the main mansion when she stopped him, he passed her an unpleasant look and left.

*Mujhe toh bas puchna tha unhone khaya ke nai. Mai khud puch lungi.*One problem with Geet was she had too much energy. To sit at a place wasn’t her thing. She looked around the whole mansion n found Maan in study.

Maan looked up sensing her before seeing. *Aapne khana khaya?* She signed then slapped her forehead thinking how would he understand n took out her pad to write the question. Mai samajh gaya. Abhi nai khaya.

*Toh chaliye khate hai. Mujhe bahut bhook lagi hai* She wrote on the pad n Maan wondered how much talkative she would have been if she could speak. *Dadimaa se milwane ke lie thank you. Wo bahut acchi hai.* A look came over Maan’s face-the one you got when you missed someone-of longing. It disappeared quickly leaving Geet doubtful if she saw right. Maan just muttered a hmm n went with her to eat.

BEZUBA, PART 5

~BEZUBA~

~PART 5~

His image appeared in mirror as he came inside the room. Hum kal Delhi jaa rahe hai. She nodded; there was nothing behind that she would really miss n this was a new start.

Her bangles sounded when he was about to go out. Maan stopped n she turned moving her hands slowly so he would understand. *Mere kapde toh ghar par hai.* She pointed towards herself after that held the hem of her kurti and then imitated a hut with her hands. Maan understood.Tumhare ghar se hum kuch nai lenge. Delhi me tumhe zaroorat ka saara samaan mil jayega aur kal ke lie kapde mai subah mangwa dunga.
She stopped him again from leaving n moved her hands pointing towards her bangles. This time Maan couldn’t comprehend what she meant so he gave her a pen n pad. Isse apne saath rakkha karo taki mujhe samajh me aaye tum kya keh rai ho. She nodded, wrote on a plain page n showed it to him. Mujhe suit se matching chudiya bhi mangwa dijiyega please. Was written over it. She was a new bride for first time going to her new house; of course she would need matching bangles.
Maan glanced at her expectant face n for few moments got lost in her innocence. Coming back to reality he muttered a ‘hmm’ n left the room. Next day Geet got the clothes and matching bangles. She wore them, and then saw her reflection in mirror.

Hopefully, she wouldn’t disappoint him or his family.
They were to leave in the afternoon. Morning Maan had some work at site. They sat in the car. Nobody came to see her off. Tumhari family ya kisi aur ko pata nai ke hum aaj Delhi jaa rahe hai. I didn’t want any fuss. Geet smiled to assure him that she wasn’t sad when in reality her throat was choked. It felt like so far she had been living someone else’s life n there was nothing of her own. As the car left her village behind, she opened the window n let the air play with her curls. A small smile twinkled at the corner of her lips.
Maan from the corner of his eyes saw her enjoying the ride. She was dressed like the new bride she was. Her forehead filled with that red powder and hands laden with bangles. The pink suit made her look so beautiful, fresh… young. He wanted to reach out n hold her. But the distance was larger than it appeared n would always be. She had to marry him because he had left no other choice. That was another thing that she didn’t protest against the marriage, not even once. But, this was her only way out though why she believed him so blindly…?? The question bothered him till no ends. Why she gifted him her whole life without any questions?
After an hour she had her head resting back on seat n the wind she was enjoying so thoroughly was now disturbing her sleep. Maan shifted towards her, forwarded his hand over her carefully and rolled the window glass up. Geet moaned and grabbed his hand. Maan remained motionless while she tucked his hand under her chin like a duvet and moved so that her head settled comfortably on his shoulder. The sound of her soft snores brought a smile on his face.
Maaneet jerked awake as the car halted. Geet discovered how close they were n moved back. Sorry. Maan didn’t say anything n climbed off the car.Bahar aao. Like he needed to tell her. She had that nervous excitement bubbling inside her. This was her new home, her husband’s house. She looked dazed at the big mansion n there were so many guards around. That was so cool. She glanced at Maan n a crazy thought that he would pick her up in his arms n take her inside brought that giddy tickling in her stomach. Unfortunately, nothing of that sort happened. He didn’t even hold her hand n walked ahead for her to follow. *Geet tu bhi na ek dum jhalli hai. Yeh koi film thode hai.* She stuck her tongue out n looked back to see where was her luggage was then remembered she had nothing with her. It felt weird to have… nothing. *Toh kya hua aise hamesha thode rahega. Kuch dino me tu yahan settle ho jayegi. Ab yahi tera ghar hai Geet.* She stared fondly at her husband’s house as they reached the door.
Few servants welcomed them and Geet met all like an old friend. Bhai, you came back. A young gal came to Maan n hugged him. I missed you soooo much. Maan cupped her face n lovingly kissed her forehead.
Maan- But I missed you more. Annie, I want you to meet someone. He directed towards Geet.
Annie knotted her brows- Whoz she?
Your sister in law. My wife.
While Annie just gaped open-mouthed another person came towards them.Maan aap aa gaye beta?
Maan- Maa. He touched his mother, Divya’s, feet. His mother looked at Geet. Yeh ladki kaun hai?
Annie- Yeh bhai ki wife hai. Bhai said this. She chuckled. Bhai you playing a prank with us na? Comeon, we are no fools here.
Annie, I am not kidding. Maa, yeh Geet hai. Mai isse Hosiyaarpur me mila aur kal raat hum dono ne ek mandir me shadi karli.
Geet nervously came forward to touch feet of her MIL. Maan’s mother’s expressions morphed from confusion to disbelief to strong dismay n disapproval and she stepped back. Aapne sach me iss ladki se shadi ki? Aur humme- ek baar pucha bhi nai. Bas gaye aur aise hi. She stared at Geet with harsh intensity that made Geet lower her gaze. Yeh ladki- Kitna padhi ho tum?
Maan- Maa-
Divya- Maan hum isse baat kar rahe hai. Toh batao?
Geet stared n wanted the ground to swallow her. She gulped to dampen her dry, voiceless throat as Maan’s mother asked again about her family.
Maan- Maa, aapko jo bhi puchna hai mai bataoga.
Divya- Kyu iss ladki ke muh me zabaan nai hai?
Maan clenched his fist; he didn’t want to tell his family about Geet’s muteness on her face lest she felt deficient or ashamed. Maa, Geet bol nai sakti.
Divya’s eyes widened. Maan aapko kisi ne majboor kia inse shadi ke lie? Aap kaise-
Nai. Maine apni marzi se shadi ki. Mai Geet se mila aur mujhe laga yehi wo ladki hai jo meri jeewansaathi ban sakti hai. Toh maine isse shadi karli. Mujhe nai lagta maine kuch galat kia hai.
Par humme lagta hai. And you are my son. She is neither appropriate for our family nor for you.
Agar aapko aisa lagta hai toh usme mai kuch nai kar sakta.Maan had always done what he wanted but he had never been this rude to his mother though right now he had no choice.
Divya- Aapne yeh shadi karke accha nai kia Maan. Duniya wale kya kahenge. Puri society me humara mazak ban jayega. She pointed at Geet. Yeh iss ghar me nai reh sakti.
Nakul. Maan shouted n the servant came forward. Mera saara saman outhouse mein shift kar do. Disbelief came over Divya’s face. Aap iss ladki ke lie-
Maan- Iss ladki nai Maa. Yeh aapki bahu hai n jitni jaldi aap iss reality ko accept karle utna accha hai.
Maan held Geet’s hand n walked out of the same door from which they had just came in.

BEAUTIFULLY FLAWED, PART 24

BEAUTIFULLY FLAWED

Part 24

Hello, I… wanted to know if Maan has come back from Noida? He should have been back by now.

Adi’s voice was strained when he spoke. Maan Sir has had an accident. He told Geet the name of the hospital where Maan was admitted.

Geet started to shake. The phone fell from her hand n she stumbled before running out of the house.

This couldn’t happen. Her heart raced n she couldn’t stop the tears streaming down her face. Drive faster. She told the driver pushing the words out of her choked throat. All moments with Maan flashed before her eyes. Their first meet, his kisses, the passion he arouse in her, the care, him calling her ‘love’.

Geet was out of the car before it actually stopped and then she stood still in her flip flops under the open sky. A lone tear fell on ground. So much did she wanted to believe that he was all right but her heart assumed the worst. Her whole form trembled as she held back the sobs that desperately tried to break free. Looking at the tall building Geet lived the past again. She had lost her everything in a hospital. While god had called her family, she was left alone; to survive n she lost the battle.

She died. Not again she wanted to die. She was not afraid of death’s face. She was afraid… of losing him.

In her broken, dark world, Maan had brought the light. He had miraculously pulled her out of that brutal hell hole; somehow he had blown a new, tiny life in her soul. She felt, so clearly. The pain, fear… love. Her heart was attached to him, cemented. She would die again if he did. He couldn’t leave her. No. She murmured in the silent night n wiped the tear.

I… I want to see Maan Singh Khurana. She spoke to the woman on counter who gave her a look-over.

Sorry, but Mr. Khurana is in the VIP ward n no one is allowed to meet him-

I am his friend. I need to see him, please.

I am sorry-

Geet. I know her. Adi informed the other woman making an entry. This way.

Geet followed the man, fisting her hands lest she lost the little strength that kept her walking. Her stomach churned seeing the dull pink n cream of the walls. She hated hospitals and she hated Maan in it. What if he was-

Please keep him all right. She prayed when her faith in the almighty was non-existent. He was responsible for her fate; he had denied the last plea of her previous life. And after taking the biggest decision of her new birth, she had stopped wishing for anything. For she was a sinner n god rarely heard the saints then she might just not waste her time. Just once. Only this time.

How is he? Her voice was alien to her ears as she braced herself for the answer.

Maan sir is out of danger, kind of. Doctor said nothing could be clearly said until he regains consciousness. He had lost a lot of blood. They had to transfuse him.

Geet nodded solemnly. Accidents are bad. People get killed. I have… seen, we had one. My family, they… Geet realized she was blabbering. I.. wha..t… what happened?

Adi cleared his throat catching Geet’s attention. She noticed the bruises on him. It wasn’t really an accident. We were going to the Noida site n some goons attacked us. Obviously their target was Maan sir. We didn’t have that much security because the visit and route were confidential. I don’t know how the word got out and who could have planned this, Maan sir have so many enemies. Thank god police came there n the goons ran away thinking Maan sir was already-you know. He was just unconscious. Geet blood stopped flowing freezing in her veins.

I want to see him. She said like a zombie n Adi must have felt the gravity of her voice. He strode faster n they reached Maan’s room. However, before Geet could go n open the door. Maan’s Dadimaa blocked her path.

Where are you going? It’s all because of you. Since the time you have entered his life everything has been going wrong. You have brought blackness n nothing.

Get aside. I will leave once I have-

No, you can’t meet him. Dadimaa held Geet’s hand to guide her away.

Geet jerked her hand back. I won’t leave until I meet him.

How dare you? He is my grandson n u are not going to meet him. Security.

Geet wasn’t going to let anything come in her way. She just wanted to see him once. While Dadimaa was busy calling security, she ran to Maan’s room n stopped dead with her hand on the door knob. He was lying on the bed with Deepika beside him, holding his hand. His companion, support. His lifeline n who was she? The curse he had brought upon himself. She was the cause of his condition. Geet touched the glass. He looked as pale as the white bed sheets, pinned with life support system, an oxygen mask on his badly bruised face. She imagined him getting beaten up, bloodied. All air dried around her. Frantically she tried to take some oxygen in but her lungs seemed incapable of the task. Her eyes slid to Deepika’s hand which was holding Maan’s. She was smoothening his hairs while he slept.

Guards grabbed Geet n she didn’t protest while they dragged her all the way out n left her there. She was looking so pathetic that one of the guards uttered a sorry. Geet smiled, tears blinding her vision. It’s okay. She was used to being manhandled, new was getting your heart broken to shreds n the agonizing pain that came with it.

Geet didn’t go to the car she had come from. It wasn’t hers n time had come to bid goodbye to the momentarily fairy tale. She was responsible for Maan’s condition. Her skin prickled n she wished to crawl out of her own form. Vision of Maan on bed cursed her, making her bleed from inside. She clutched her chest where the pain was worst. Her legs were wobbly n became incapable of walking after sometime so she stepped over the sidewalk n sat on the dusty ground. Resting her back against the scrubby trunk of a tree, her hands came up to fist on her head in the messed up mass of hairs.

The pain n guilt nearly killed her. She had allowed him in, let him be incharge of her life. Her curse fell upon him too. He was naïve but she knew. She didn’t fight hard enough. Although, now the lesson was learned. She was fated to be alone n not let anyone come close. Geet knew she was beyond salvation.

Standing up she tried to subdue the trembles. The night was cold n her blood was colder. She had nearly killed him, didn’t she? But he would be fine. He had to be fine, since now she had left him, once n for all. Geet brushed her clothes of all the debris.

Hey J. The Bartender looked at her confused. Oh, you forgot me? Geet flashed him a smile.

Ah, Muskan what has happened? You look out of form n… heartbroken.

Geet frowned and asked in a low voice. Oh, I am that obvious?

Yes. You are babes. Where have you been? Didn’t see you around and two guys had come to ask about you.

She sat straighter. Who?

The big ugly guy you work with.

Her eyes widened. Must be their building guard. What did you say?

That I didn’t see you around.

If they come again-

My lips are sealed. Don’t worry.

You are awesome. Thank you.

As I can see you have enough of trouble in your kitty. But you know how dangerous they are. Where are you staying?

Just here n there. Nowhere particular.

I thought you tried to flee. That’s suicide. The man you work for-the bartender’s voice dropped in volume-doesn’t have a good record with the girls who try leave him and the business. Geet was very well aware of that. I don’t want to scare you. Just be careful.

Her throat suddenly was so dry. Can you get me something to drink? I don’t have money.

It’s some rich brat’s pay today. I can slip you free liquid. J winked n Geet was more than thankful.

She drank and danced between the grinding bodies for hours. In darkness nobody knew her n everyone was same, just like her. Yet the ache in her didn’t subside, it grew larger.

Back on the road, Geet realized she was too much drunk. The air was heavier, ground so far n sky spinning above making her want to puke. Still, only her mind was foggy… her heart was way too sober. It felt all the same, yearning for Maan, praying for him, wanting to be with him.

A whistle broke her thoughts. She turned to see three guys following her n grinned. Sorry, am out of order.

But why? We’ll serve you nicely.

Geet shook her head. Idiots!! Continuing to walk, she hummed an old song. Where would she spend the night n the coming days? For the night a public park would do n then in the morni- The guys surrounded her n she looked at them bored. See, am really in no mood of your petty games. Maybe some other time if you are lucky. So for now, fuck off.

I think I have seen you somewhere. One of the drunkards said ogling her face.

Reallyyyy? A bar perhaps considering the condition we all are in.

You are Muskan, right? Mr. C’s guys were searching for you. Before another word could be uttered she ran. Go grab her. We would get prize if we supplied her to Mr. C or he could give us some work.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t go far n the guys caught her easily.

Let go of me. Dogs. She trashed n clawed while they laughed.

We have got a jackpot for all we know.

A car stopped, its headlight flashing over Geet’s face. She closed her eyes.

Leave her.

Who are yo- At the sight of gun, the guys took a step back.

You better run from here or I am calling the police. The man from the fancy car took his phone out from the hand that wasn’t holding the gun. We’ll see you later. They all ran away.

He held Geet before she fell on the ground. Maan…

Maan is in hospital. He had an accident. Geet focused her vision on her savior.

Shaan. You always come at right time.

Shaan held a swaying Geet close to himself. She was buxom n soft but her face was pale n clothes dirty. He felt a wave of compassion n concern hit him hard. Always attracted to Geet but that was nothing new. Beauty always caught his attention yet something was different about this girl. She intrigued him so strongly n touched more than just his interest.

I am taking you to my house.

Yeah, take me to your house. She repeated closing her eyes as Shaan made her sit in the car.
